Synopsis
Athens, 1995. Annita is a divorced mother and struggling newspaper journalist who can barely make rent. Denied a desperately needed raise, she takes a secret evening job through a mysterious agency. By day: plain cardigans, a smoky newsroom, and a demanding boss. By night: designer gowns, wealthy diplomats, and Kolonaki galas. The chaos escalates episode by episode — she is assigned to investigate her own alter ego, her ex-husband hires a private detective to follow her, a school principal falls in love with her glamorous persona without recognizing her in plain clothes, and her two worlds keep violently colliding in the same rooms. It all culminates at the Athens Media Awards gala, where both identities converge on the same stage — and Annita orchestrates a brilliant, theatrical reveal that exposes her hypocritical bosses and claims her independence to a standing ovation.
Director's Vision
"Fast, sharp, and pre-digital. The 1995 Athens setting is not nostalgic decoration — it is a structural comedy engine. No smartphones means no quick fixes: every lie must be maintained in person, every disguise held together by nerve and timing alone. The visual palette draws from warm Kodak film grain, smoky newsrooms, Kolonaki marble lobbies, and the chaotic energy of mid-90s Greek urban life. The humor is verbal, escalating, and relentless — a closed-loop farce calibrated for international binge-watching and algorithmic retention."About the Production
The Double Life of Annita is a 9-episode premium SVOD comedy series created and executive produced by Constantine Ganosis for GSL Productions LLC, targeting the international global comedy streaming slate. Set in the vibrant pre-digital landscape of 1995 Athens, the series deploys a classic dual-identity trope with surgical precision — stripping away melodrama and leaning entirely into situational comedy and razor-sharp C1/C2 English dialogue. The absence of mobile technology is a deliberate structural choice that maximizes comedic stakes: every deception must be maintained face-to-face, every escape executed in real time. The series is designed as a fully closed 9-episode narrative arc, binge-optimized for global streaming platforms.
